Moscow expects from the US not to strike again on Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday, Turkey's Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
"We consider it fundamentally important to prevent risks of recurrence of such events in the future," Lavrov was quoted as saying by Russia's TASS news agency. Lavrov's remarks came at a meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Relations between Moscow and Washington became tense after the US last week fired 59 Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian military air base that American officials believe was used to carry out a deadly chemical attack in Syria last Tuesday.
However, Russia regarded the US missile strikes on Syria as an "act of aggression" against a sovereign state delivered in violation of international law under a "far-fetched pretext".
Lavrov termed Tillerson's visit "very timely", saying Russia hopes to clarify the prospects for dialogue with the US.
This marks the first visit of any official of Donald Trump's administration to Russia.
Lavrov said it was "important" for Russia to understand the "real" intentions of the US administration.
Tillerson hoped "open and frank" dialogue with his Russian counterpart.
The ministers are expected to hold a news conference later on Wednesday.
