For the first time, Saudi Arabia is participating in the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China 2024), held recently in Zhuhai.
The event, known as one of the world’s largest aviation showcases, marks a new chapter in Saudi Arabia’s engagement with the global defense and aerospace community.
The Saudi pavilion, organized by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), highlights the Kingdom’s efforts to localize its defense sector as part of Vision 2030, a national initiative to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on imports.
The pavilion features military products and technologies, with a particular focus on advancements in aviation and defense manufacturing.
Saudi Arabia’s participation underscores its goal of localizing 50% of government spending on military equipment and services by 2030.
“The Governor of GAMI, His Excellency Engineer Ahmad Al-Ohali, affirmed that this strategic participation, occurring for the first time in China, aims to enhance the Kingdom's global presence in the military industries sector and to solidify its position as one of the fastest-growing economies among the G20 nations,” says GAMI in a press release.
It added that it seeks to establish fruitful international partnerships to empower and develop the military industries sector, while also promoting the Kingdom's message of welcoming investors from around the world.
“Additionally, it aims to highlight the key objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 within the military sector,” says GAMI.
