JAKARTA: Swiss police have announced a tragic end to the search for West Java's Governor Ridwan Kamil's eldest son, who was reported missing on May 26.
The body of Emmeril Khan Mumtadz, 22, was found in the overflow basin of the Engehalde weir in Bern at 6.50am on June 8.
An autopsy confirmed his identity and the cause of death was drowning, said Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Muliaman D. Hadad in a live press conference.
During a morning swim in the Aare River, Emmeril was believed to have been swept by a sudden surge of the river current, while his sister and a friend were saved by other swimmers.
It took 12 days for authorities to find Emmeril's body, who is in Switzerland's capital to pursue a master's degree programme.
