Symbolic building in Narathiwat goes up in smoke

A building that stood as symbol of harmony among Muslims and Buddhists in Narathiwat province was among 10 buildings that were razed in a fire that broke out at 2.10am in the district of Rusak, about 50km from Narathiwat town yesterday.
The wooden buildings were said to be more than 100 years old.
Rusak police chief Pol. Col. Somprach Kannakarn said firemen took about three hours to contain the blaze.
Meanwhile, in Yala, two rangers were killed and three others were injured after a roadside bomb went off at 4.30pm local time.
The commander of Thailand's Ranger Campany 47, Col. Thanuwat Pisansititwat said they were on routine patrol in Kampong Kadok, Yaha, Yala, when the incident happened.
