BANGKOK: Thailand is keen to host a Formula One (F1) race in Bangkok, as Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin broached the proposal to Formula One Group's top executive during their meeting on Monday.
Srettha in his posting on X said he had a discussion with the Formula One Group chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali on Monday on the possibility of expanding the Formula One race to Thailand.
"I had the opportunity to discuss with Stefano Domenicali, who honoured us with a visit to Thailand at the invitation of the government, to study the opportunities and explore the possibility of using Thailand as a street race or F1 circuit," he said.
Srettha expressed hope that the Thailand trip would provide the company with the insights and the opportunities to explore the routes demonstrating Thailand's potential to host F1.
Local media reported that the Formula One Group executives were in Bangkok to survey and study potential race routes at the invitation of the Thai government.
Srettha asserted that Thailand has the potential to host a F1 race in Bangkok and the government was prepared to support such an endeavour.
"If successful, I am confident that our country will be one of the most impressive hosts of the competition, with the potential, facilities, and friendliness of the Thai people," he said.
