BANGKOK: Thailand has notified Russia, the current chair of the BRICS group, of its acceptance to be a partner country, Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura said on Thursday, according to Xinhua.

As a partner country, Thailand seeks to elevate cooperation with BRICS members to enhance economic opportunities, and highlight its role in fostering cooperation among developing countries and supporting a multilateral system that benefits more of these nations, Nikorndej told a press conference.
