Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan could team up for "Ithaca," the actress's directing debut. This would mark the pair's fourth time on screen together.
Adapted from William Saroyan's "Human Comedy" (1943), "Ithaca" tells the story of a 14-year-old boy who has to take care of his widowed mother and siblings after his father died and his older brother leaves for war.
Far from romantic comedies "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail," Meg Ryan is trying her hand at something more dramatic. Hanks is also planning to produce the film.
Erik Jendresen, who worked with Tom Hanks on "Band of Brothers," will be in charge of writing the script.
Sam Shepard ("Out of the Furnace") and Melanie Griffith ("Crazy in Alabama") are also part of the cast.
Filming is expected to start in July. No release date has been announced as of yet.
