WASHINGTON: United States (US) President Donald Trump on Sunday declared Feb 9 as "Gulf of America Day", Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
Trump signed the proclamation aboard Air Force One while flying over the Gulf of Mexico en route to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Super Bowl.
"I call upon public officials and all the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities," he said in his proclamation.
On Jan 20, after he was inaugurated as the 47th president, Trump signed an executive order directing the secretary of the interior to "take all appropriate actions" to rename the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America."
