Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he should have been named Time (magazine) Person of the Year instead of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"Time Magazine, hey they didn't even give me the Man of the Year (award), Person of the Year, they should have.
“ That's why its heading down the tubes, folks. They gave it to a woman (referring to German Chancellor Angela Merkel) who's not done the right thing in Germany,
“It's not doing too well over there. Nice woman, I like her, I like her, I better like her, I may have to deal with her.
“Look (Russian President Vladimir) Putin likes me, I want her to like me too, right right ," he said in front of his supporters in Michigan.
Time named Merkel Person of The Year for 2015 after her leadership has helped preserve and promote an open, borderless Europe in the face of economic turmoil and an ongoing refugee crisis.
Merkel is undeterred by criticism of what some describe as an "open-door refugee policy", and she still remains one of the most popular leaders in the West, even after the recent dip.
The year 2015 marked the start of Merkel’s 10th year as Chancellor of a united Germany and the de facto leader of the European Union.
