WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he would sit down for an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic magazine who recently published a bombshell article regarding a leak of sensitive information on the Signal messenger app, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

"Later today I will be meeting with, of all people, Jeffrey Goldberg, the Editor of The Atlantic, and the person responsible for many fictional stories about me, including the made-up HOAX on 'Suckers and Losers' and, SignalGate, something he was somewhat more 'successful' with," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Trump also noted that he would do this interview out of curiosity to check if The Atlantic is capable of writing a fair story about him.

On March 24, Goldberg revealed in an article that he was accidentally added by US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz to a private chat on the Signal app regarding impending strikes on the Houthis in Yemen that took place on March 15.

According to Goldberg, the chat included senior officials such as Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance.

Goldberg presented screenshots of the correspondence, in which the Pentagon chief, several hours before the start of the operation, reports on the types of aircraft and targets, which, according to the journalist, could threaten servicemen if leaked.

The Atlantic editor-in-chief accused officials of serious violations of security rules. The chat was reportedly set to automatically delete messages, which violated the requirements for storing official information.
