UBER has chosen Thailand as the first country to launch its new motorcycle service called UberMOTO starting today.
With traffic congestion synonymous with Bangkok, this will provide an alternative for commuters wanting to make short trips without having to go through the city’s traffic jam.
At the same time, Uber will now compete with the motorcycle taxis that are already roaming the streets of Bangkok.
“Motorcycles are part of the commuting culture in Thailand. Uber’s goal is to provide safe, affordable, reliable transportation at the push of a button, everywhere for everyone.
“With UberMOTO, we’re thrilled to introduce a product that resonates with Thai people and provides another easy and affordable option for short trips around town while creating tens of thousands of flexible work opportunities for Thais,” said Uber Head of Asia Expansion Douglas Ma in a statement.
Uber users in Thailand are now able to book a UberMOTO ride using the main App.
According to the statement, UberMOTO riders are insured and have undergone an extensive screening process which includes a police background check.
UberMOTO riders will also provide a helmet for its pillion riders.
