The family of one of the Jakarta suicide bombers, Ahmad Muhazan, is having trouble trying to bury his remains.
This is because the villagers of Desa Kedungwungu in Indramayu, West Java, do not want to have a militant, particularly one who had blood on his hands, to be buried in their village.
According to a MetroTV report on Monday, the villagers of Desa Kedungwungu in Indramayu, West Java, did so because they didn’t want their village to 'receive' the militant who had sacrificed innocent lives.
Last Thursday, 26-year-old Ahmad Muhazan and three other attackers had shook Jalan MH Thamrin in central Jakarta when they carried out a carefully planned attack using homemade explosives and handguns.
"The villagers here are very tolerant, not radical in any way, let alone to commit murder? What was done by Azan (Ahmad Muhazan), has tarnished Islam," a village leader, Nasrullah, was quoted as saying.
He claimed that a substantial number of locals protested against the remains of the suicide bomber to be buried in the village.
"The youth leader, community leader and religious leader of Desa Kedungwungu have all agreed to reject Azan’s remains to be buried here, despite his parents having the land to do so," he reportedly said.
A cloth banner was erected at the gateway of the village, with the words "warga Desa Kedungwungu, Indramayu menolak mayat teroris" (residents of Desa Kedungwungu, Indramayu reject remains of terrorists) written on it.
The situation has left village head, Ahmad Fuadi, in a tight spot, furthermore after being the middle person between the villagers and Azan's family.
Ahmad Muhazan, who was born on July 5, 1990, had purportedly caused the bomb explosion in a Starbucks café in Sarinah Mall on Jalan MH Thamrin last Jan 14.
The incident had caused the death of eight people, of which four were identified as perpetrators.
