A baby has been born in the United States with antibodies to the COVID-19 virus, according to a report by television station WPBF.
The baby is said to have received the antibodies from her mother who was injected with COVID-19 vaccine while pregnant, according to doctors.
"As far as we know, this is the first time in the world a baby has been born with the COVID-19 antibody after her mother was injected while pregnant," said Florida pediatrician Paul Gilbert.
The woman, a health worker, was given the Moderna vaccine injection when she was 36 weeks pregnant.
She gave birth to a baby girl in late January and a blood sample from the baby was taken.
"We have tested the blood sample to see if antibodies from the mother have been transferred to the baby.
"This often happens with other vaccines if it is injected when a woman is pregnant," explained Dr Gilbert.
Previously, a woman in Singapore who was infected with COVID-19 while pregnant gave birth to a baby who had antibodies to the virus.
