A zookeeper at Palm Beach Zoo here was killed after being attacked by a Malayan Tiger on Friday.
Stacey Konwiser, who was also the head keeper, was severely injured during the attack, which happened in a contained area while she was preparing for a talk called The Tiger Talk.
The Sun Sentinel reported the tiger had to be subdued in order to allow the paramedics to approach and treat Konwiser.
She was then flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but died a few hours later.
The zoo is currently closed until the end of the weekend.
The zoo spokesperson, Naki Carter said Konwiser was doing her job as usual.
An investigation is underway to look into the reason why the attack occurred.
Konwiser had been working at the zoo, which is home to four Malayan Tigers, for the past three years.
Information on social media stated that Konwiser was known as an animal lover, and had always been fascinated by tigers.
Earlier this year, she uploaded a photo of a tiger, believed to a Malayan Tiger to her Facebook.
Replying to a comment on the photo, she said the tiger was "The newest man in my life".
