First gas on Phase II at North Malay Basin Integrated Gas Project for Hess

Hess Malaysia announced today that it had safely started up first gas from the Zetung wells in Phase II of the North Malay Basin (NMB) Integrated Gas Development Project.

The NMB Integrated Gas Development Project is a phased development project with Phase I comprising an early production system and a full-field development project, which achieved first gas in 2013 and 2017 respectively.

Phase II includes the development of the Zetung and Anggerik fields which are located south of the Bergading Central Processing Platform (CPP), approximately 300 kilometers offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

“We are extremely proud to have delivered the first gas for NMB Phase II safely and on schedule,” said Zhiyong Zhao, Vice-President of Hess Asia.

“NMB is an important resource for Malaysia and will help meet increasing natural gas demand across the country. The next milestone for NMB will be the delivery of first gas from the Anggerik wells, which are expected to come onstream in April 2020,” he continued.

Hess earlier this year sanctioned Phase 3 of the NMB development, with first gas planned for the fourth quarter of 2021.

NMB is a long-life natural gas asset comprised of nine discovered natural gas fields with an estimated gross recoverable resource of more than 1.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and more than 20 million barrels of condensate.

Hess Malaysia, a subsidiary of Hess Corporation, is the operator and holds a 50 percent interest in the NMB project together with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), which holds a 50 percent interest.
