Malaysia to continue render technical cooperation programmes with FEALAC

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, who attended the three-day FEALAC VII Foreign Ministers' meeting in San Jose, Costa Roca which kicked off on Wednesday, said the cooperation is being made under the spirit of South-South cooperation.

Anifah also stated that FEALAC, a vehicle that facilitates bi-regional cooperation between Asia and Latin America, needed to further strengthen the economic, trade, and investment cooperation among member countries.

He said this at the Plenary Session of the meeting, themed "FEALAC 2015: Two Regions, One Vision”, a meeting which served as a platform for FEALAC member countries to discuss the way forward in strengthening the inter-regional cooperation between East Asia and Latin America.

A press statement from Wisma Putra last night said Anifah was accompanied by senior officials from Wisma Putra and the Malaysian Embassy in Mexico City.

It said Anifah also delivered intervention notes during the Private Ministerial Session (Retreat), which were based on the theme "How to Strengthen FEALAC".

He said Malaysia's proposal on moderation as an all-encompassing approach was to include other areas, such as politics, social, economy or international relations.

"The approach can contribute towards peace, sustainable and inclusive development, equitable growth and social harmony. It is a strategic move that can create synergy between the well developed member countries and their emerging counterparts as well as among their own.

"It allows a win-win situation for all, which can be applied in the framework of FEALAC," the statement said.

It said the meeting also adopted the San Jose Declaration and the Guideline for FEALAC Working Process as the outcome documents that outline the future direction of the Forum.
