Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has installed two modularised waste heat boilers for its refinery, which is currently under construction at the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).
In a statement today, the national oil company said, the boilers were important components of the residual fluid catalytic cracking (RFCC) unit within the refinery as they functioned to crack hydrotreated atmospheric residue into feedstock for the stream cracker facility.
"The successful installation of these boilers signifies another important milestone in the overall development of the PIC which is poised for successful start-up in the first quarter of 2019," it said.
The boilers, fabricated in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, each weighs about 2,000 tonnes.
They are the biggest modularised waste heat boilers that ever landed on Malaysia's shores, and recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records.
The construction of the boilers, along with the RFCC, were awarded to the consortium of CTCI Corp, Chiyoda Corp, Synerlitz Malaysia Sdn Bhd and MIE Industries Sdn Bhd.
Upon completion, PIC's refinery will have a refining capacity of 300,000 barrels per day. -- Bernama
