The ringgit’s performance is not as weak as reflected on social media platforms, said head of the Economic and Management Cluster of the National Management Council of Professors, Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali.
Dr Noor Azlan said that currently many netizens argue about the state of the ringgit without being backed by economic facts.
“There are those who say that the ringgit is of no value. This is not right. I myself have travelled overseas and found that the ringgit is being used as normal but traded at a lower value,” he said to Astro AWANI.
Dr Noor Azlan who is also Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) vice-chancellor there was no reason for Malaysians to panic.
“This is because the decline of the ringgit is part of a global economic phenomenon faced by other countries around the world,” he said.
However, Dr Noor Azlan stressed the importance of focusing on this matter so that it does not create a bad impact to the country.
Apart from that he said, mitigation steps should be taken to ensure that that the economic problem faced by the country is handled well.
Therefore, in his opinion, the Special Economics Committee (JKE) formed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to play a key role in framing these measures.
JKE is chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar.
