YTL Power has not signed PPA due to conditions set by TNB
The government had conducted a competitive bidding exercise in 2015 to procure additional power supply on a short-term basis by extending the PPA of the First Generation IPPs.
YTL Power has not signed the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) it is negotiating with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) due to the conditions set by the latter.
The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry in a statement today confirmed that TNB is also challenging the direction issued by the Energy Commission (EC) to extend the PPA.
To recap, the government via the EC conducted a competitive bidding exercise in 2015 to procure additional power supply on a short-term basis by extending the PPA of the First Generation Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Three IPPs, namely Port Dickson Power Bhd, Kuala Langat Power Plant Sdn Bhd and YTL Power Generation Sdn Bhd fulfilled the conditions set by the EC and were selected.
"Two of them, PD Power and Kuala Langat Power, have signed the PPAs with TNB.
"YTL Power has not, due to the conditions set by TNB on its PPA. TNB is also challenging the direction issued by the EC to extend the PPA and has submitted the direction for judicial review," the ministry said.
