'Don't touch party flags, take down insulting banners'
Local councils in Selangor have been asked to monitor and ensure that no political flags are being taken down during the campaign period going into the 13th General Election.
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that he has also asked the local authorities to pull down any banners that insult and humiliating opponents
“It is important to make sure that there are not incidents that could lead to fights between supporters of political parties of both sides," said Khalid in a statement.
The head of the Selangor caretaker government said that political leaders and their followers must be ethical and prioritise harmony.
Khalid said that party flags, banners and advertisements can be taken down if it was afixed in places that are deemed unsafe and could lead to accidents.
“I want to remind Malaysians, no matter supporters of Pakatan Rakyat or Barisan Nasional to be political mature," he said.
The Selangor state legislative assembly was dissolved on April 4, a day after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the dissolution of Parliament.
Khalid had announced that all state assemblymen and excos can only continue to use only 50% of their allocations so that the next government would be able to take over with enough funds.
