A fresh batch of new releases are expected to top the charts in the year to come. Here's the latest on the new material expected in 2016.

Gorillaz

In October, Damon Albarn's group announced the follow-up to "The Fall," which was released in 2011. Jamie Hewlett, co-founder and illustrator for the Gorillaz, confirmed their return to the studio in DIY Magazine. It will be their fifth album.

David Bowie

On November 20, the "Life on Mars" singer unveiled his single "Blackstar" along with its ten-minute music video. This track is none other than a theme song for "The Last Panthers" TV show. Another single, "Lazarus," from Bowie's off-Broadway production of the same name, is set to premiere December 17 before a digital release December 18. David Bowie's latest album is scheduled to be released on January 8, 2016, the day of his 69th birthday, and three years after the release of "The Next Day."

Jeff Buckley

On March 11, 2016, Jeff Buckley fans will be able to treat themselves to "You and I," a new album of 10 tracks which have been out of the limelight for over 20 years. This album features covers of Bob Dylan, Joe Green and Morrissey. It will mark the 20th anniversary of Buckley's cult album "Grace."

Iggy Azalea

Although there has not been an official announcement yet, chances are that the Australian singer Iggy Azaela will release some new work in 2016. During a conversation on Twitter, she told a fan that this new record will be called "Digital Distortion." Watch this space ...

Rihanna

Rihanna's new album was highly anticipated throughout 2015, but was ultimately not released. However, fans were given some new material in the form of singles such as "FourFiveSeconds" with Kanye West and Paul McCartney, "American Oxygen" and the headline-grabbing "Bitch Better Have My Money." The Barbadian singer did release the dates for an international tour called "ANTI," which is also the title of the hypothetical album expected in 2016.

Kanye West

Just like Rihanna, the rapper released some singles like "All Day" and "Only One" without saying when "Swish," which is expected to follow "Yeezus," will come out.

Drake

Drake was another big name in 2015 and is likely to remain in the media spotlight in 2016. Some people are saying that the mysterious "Views From The 6" will be released in January 2016.

Katy Perry

There are rumors that the "I Kissed a Girl" singer could make headlines with a new opus. During a press conference in Singapore, her manager mentioned the possibility of a new album in 2016.

And...

In an interview with Billboard magazine, Gwen Stefani, the singer for No Doubt, said she had enough tracks for at least two albums. Perhaps she'll release one in 2016?

And after starring in "American Horror Story" in 2015, Lady Gaga is working on a new album, according to comments made by Elton John on Beats1 Radio.
