On Sunday, May 19, the annual Billboard Music Awards took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The awards honor creativity and achievement in the music industry. This year's event saw Taylor Swift pick up eight awards and Rihanna dominate R&B; a list of some of the night's big winners can be found below.

One of the night's biggest winners was American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who picked up eight awards - Artist of the Year, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Country Artist and Top Digital Songs Artist, and her 2012 LP "Red" won Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Country Album, while her hit single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" from "Red" took Top Country Song.

Elsewhere Rihanna picked up awards in the categories Top Radio Artist and Top R&B Artist, while Gotye received the award for "Top Hot 100 Song" for his hit track "Somebody That I Used To Know (Feat. Kimbra)."
