Disney star Debby Ryan voices one of the winter fairies in the new animated film "Secret of the Wings," based on the Disney Fairies franchise.
In the movie Tinker Bell travels to the forbidden world and discovers a water fairy named Periwinkle who is actually her sister.
"Parenthood" actress Mae Whitman voices the role of Tinker Bell whereas "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale is Periwinkle. Ryan plays a frost fairy, friend of Periwinkle's named Spike who she describes as a "glass is half empty" type.
Nineteen-year-old Ryan says doing voice work is interesting because you record your lines solo rather than with your co-stars.
"It's kind of working backwards. When you're an actor you get a line and you figure out the blocking and you figure out which is where you move and what you grab and what you're carrying and then you figure out how your hands and your head and your facial expressions. With this all of that's done for you except the voice.
Your voice has to match not only the cadence but also the vibe and the timber and make it sound conversational. It's very interesting, it's very interesting kind of process the voiceover process and people always say, 'Oh, it's great. You can roll in in your sweatpants.' You totally can. That doesn't mean it's not a total knack and you have to hone it. It's very interesting."
There have been five Disney Fairies films so far: "Tinker Bell," "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure," "Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue", "Pixie Hollow Games", and now "Secret of the Wings." Another movie called "Quest for the Queen" is scheduled to be released in Spring 2014.
"Secret of the Wings" was released theatrically in several countries like France, Mexico, Argentina, Poland, Australia and Colombia. In the U.S. it was released straight-to-DVD.
