Astro Radio recorded a 55% increase of listeners, the highest number of listeners in 9 years -the result of 16 consecutive studies.
Astro Radio once again maintained its leading position as Malaysia's No.1 radio station with 12 645 million listeners every week.
The results were based on the survey results released by Nielsen Radio Audience Measurement, Sweep 1, 2014 this week.
It confirmed that the No.1, No.2 and No.3 radio stations in the country belongs to Astro Radio.
This means that Astro Radio has dominated the radio broadcasting industry when it successfully maintained ERA fm’s No.1 position, with an incredible amount of listeners of 5.2 million.
Meanwhile, THR (Raaga & Gegar) have dropped to the No. 2 radio station with 3.5 million listeners. SINAR fm placed as the No. 3 radio station with 3.4 million listeners.
However, THR Gegar continues to be the No. 1 radio station in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, covering Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang with 1.6 million listeners.
THR Raaga maintained its position as the No. 1 Tamil station with 1.8 million listeners.
Overall, ERA fm, hitzfm, MY FM and THR Raaga holds the crown as the No.1 radio station frequencies in languages such as Bahasa Malaysia, English, Chinese and Tamil.
Astro Radio CEO, Dr Jake Abdullah said that the sphere of radio has changed in the past decade and it does not only take into account the music genres it plays.
“Astro Radio will need to adjust the depth of its content, aggressive marketing strategies and constant review of the audience to deliver to the ever-changing needs of the audience today
“We have changed from just being a radio station to a content and information provider wherever and whenever- when our listeners want it.
“ Astro Radio listeners are very important, that’s why we will be more aggressive to ensure that satisfaction given to our listeners follows the changing times,” he said.
