In "Dirty Grandpa," Robert De Niro will play a vulgar old man who is convinced that his uptight grandson, played by Zac Efron, is about to marry the wrong woman. Just before the wedding, the retired army general tricks the young man into driving him to Florida for spring break.
Still basking in the success of "Neighbors," which earned $150 million at the US box office, Zac Efron reaffirms his interest in the comedy genre with this latest feature, just like Robert De Niro, who is now known as much for his comedy turns -- including iconic performances as the father in the "Meet the Parents" movies -- as he is for his early dramatic work.
“Dirty Grandpa” marks the first Universal-Zac Efron comedy since their box office smash, “Neighbor.” - Screenshot from the trailer Neighbor.
As an interesting side note, although the two actors have yet to work together, Efron dressed like De Niro's character from "Taxi Driver" -- complete with the mohawk -- in a scene from "Neighbors."
Release dates have not been announced for "Dirty Grandpa."
