Contracted: Phase II, a bloody, disgusting sequel

If you are weak at heart at the slightest sight of blood and squirm when you see maggots doused in slimy bodily juices, then you might want to refrain yourself from this one.

Contracted: Phase II is overloaded with gore, more than ever before – the kind of movie that can make your stomach twist with disgust.

The first installment, Contracted starring Najarra Townsend as a young woman, Samantha, who got more than she bargained for after a break-up and a party. That night at the party, Samantha was drugged and raped and in no time, she finds herself suffering from a mysterious sexually transmitted disease which two years later, opens the scene for Phase II.

However, if you have not watched Contracted in 2013, a horror film directed and written by Eric England, then, plot wise, you wouldn’t be missing much. Newbie director Josh Forbes took the directing baton from Eric England and led the cast to the same issues that plagued the first movie in terms of pacing and character issues. The main characters lack development and if there was any, it was pretty brash and hasty.

Gory and bloody, Contracted: Phase II continues on from the previous film, where, Samantha fades out of consciousness, and she is involved in a car crash. As she steps out of the vehicle, she is revealed to have transformed fully into a zombie. Her mother, who arrived at the scene, begs the police not to shoot Samantha.

Picking up straight away from the first film, Phase II, now follows Riley, played by Matt Mercer who has an unrequited crush on Samantha. Riley has had his fair share of disgusting drama when he got infected from the previous episode of party and sex.

Racing against time, for his life, he tries everything he can to dig out more about the virus, its mysterious host as well as the cure to this plague.

As Riley digs deeper, he stumbles upon BJ played by Morgan Peter Brown, the nerdy necromaniac who started all this chaos with his intention to annihilate humankind which leads to a much more startling outcome.
