NBC pondering 'Law & Order' revival

The network is considering bringing back the long-running detective series, which has been off the air for five years now. The potential "Law & Order" revival would take the form of a limited series of 13 episodes.

After setting the wheels in motion on "Heroes Reborn," NBC is reportedly taking steps to bring back the first show in the "Law & Order" franchise. According to Deadline, though the project is not in active development, original cast members including Chris Noth ("Sex and the City," "The Good Wife") and Sam Waterston ("The Newsroom") have been approached by the network about reprising their roles.

Originally aired on the network from 1990 to 2010, "Law & Order" gave rise to multiple spin-offs, including "Law & Order: SVU," which still airs on NBC today.

Before announcing a possible "Law & Order" revival, NBC is preparing to reboot its drama "Heroes" with the 13-episode miniseries "Heroes Reborn," due to air at some point in 2015. The original show, which aired from 2006 to 2010, focused on a set of characters endowed with extraordinary abilities.

The trend of dusting off and updating old formats is not limited to NBC, however. Showtime is preparing a follow-up to "Twin Peaks," Fox is considering an "X-Files" reunion" and ABC is looking to revive "Alias."
