Air India flight makes emergency landing after 'bomb threat' SMS
MISCOMMUNICATION: The husband of a flight passenger misunderstood his wife's SMS and believed that a bomb had been planted on the flight from Kochi to New Delhi.
An Air India passenger plane en route from Kochi to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing at Bangalore following a bomb threat on Monday night.
Flight AI-047, which took off at 8.40pm and was to reach Delhi airport at 11.05pm, was diverted due to a tipoff made by a passenger’s husband.
It was reported that all the 156 passengers were disembarked safely and a bomb disposal squad of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was dispatched to investigate the situation.
The Times of India reported that the aircraft was brought down due to a miscommunication between a woman passenger and her husband.
It said the woman sent an SMS to her husband, saying she saw high security at the airport and that there might be a chance of a bomb.
Upon hearing this, the husband rushed to Kochi airport to inform authorities that a bomb has been planted on the flight.
The daily reported that Kochi airport has been on high alert since Friday due to threatening calls that it will be attacked by terrorists armed with AK-47s.
