CHINA and the United States should continue to meet each other halfway in a spirit of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit in a bid to deliver more tangible results that benefit both countries and their people, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday.
Guo was responding to a media query on the U.S. return of 64 Chinese cultural relics and paleontological fossils to China.
"Since the signing of the intergovernmental memorandum of understanding between China and the United States to prevent the illegal import of Chinese cultural relics into the United States, pragmatic cooperation between the two countries has yielded fruitful results, leading to the repatriation of more than 20 batches of cultural relics, totaling over 700 items. The latest return represents a concrete outcome of the consensus reached by the two heads of state at their meeting in Beijing and demonstrates the broad prospects for building a constructive, strategic and stable relationship between the two countries.
