China’s foreign minister Wang Yi on Monday (October 27) called for stronger global governance and multilateral cooperation in the face of mounting global crise, while speaking at the Lanting Forum in Beijing.

AI Brief
  • Chinese official Wang criticised rising global isolationism and stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation.
  • The remarks come ahead of the APEC summit in South Korea, where Xi and Trump are expected to meet.
  • Their meeting will focus on launching new trade negotiations between the US and China.

"Frequent withdrawals from international organisations and agreements, and the obsession with forming exclusive blocs, have posed unprecedented challenges to multilateralism. Yet the course of history cannot be reversed, a multipolar world is on its way," Wang said.
The Lanting Forum comes days before multiple world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, South Korea.
The two presidents are expected to meet at the summit to sign off on terms of new trade negotiations between Washington and Beijing.
