Erdogan's candidacy in presidential election remains a question
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
It is yet unclear, whether Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be contesting in Turkey's presidential election, Azerbaijan's Trend news agency reported.
Citing Turkish Haber Türk TV channel, Trend quoted Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay on Wednesday as saying that the election is scheduled for Aug 10.
Previously, a number of Turkish media outlets reported that Erdogan will nominate his candidacy in the presidential election.
The presidential election will be held in Turkey in two rounds. If no candidate receives the required number of votes in the first round, then the second round will be held on Aug 24.
Trend reported that the Turkish president will be elected by the people, rather than the parliament starting from 2014 as opposed to the previous presidential election, according to the referendum results of 2007.
The referendum also stated that the elected president will serve the office for five years instead of seven years previously.
