RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday (June 28) that he did not believe Europeans had changed the stance of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine.

Putin also said that talks between Russia and U.S. in Anchorage in August 2025 featured no formal agreements and that Russia is ready to continue talks with U.S. side soon in Moscow.

French President Emmanuel Macron said after G7 summit if France that Trump had acknowledged during the talks there that Russia did not want peace in Ukraine and that this marked "a real change in approach" from the U.S.

Russian officials regularly refer to the so-called "Spirit of Anchorage" - shorthand, say analysts, for what Moscow interpreted as the basis for a possible agreement that would see Ukrainian forces withdraw from the remainder of the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine in return for ‌Moscow freezing the battlelines elsewhere.

Kyiv has repeatedly said it will not hand over any of its territory to Russia without a fight.
