Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha is expected to discuss peace talks with rebel groups in the south of the country when he comes for an official visit to meet his counterpart Datuk Seri Najib Razak next month, The Bangkok Post reported.
Thailand wants Malaysia to be the facilitator in the peace talks with the insurgent groups.
The meeting between the two leaders will mark a major step in the Thai government's attempt to hold peace talks with insurgents, the daily reported.
An advisor to the the National Security Council (NSC), Gen Akanit Muansawat told the daily that Prayuth planned to hold talks with every insurgent group instead of one or two and wants the talks to be held in secret to prevent any groups from setting conditions.
He said NSC’s outgoing chief Thawil Pliensri is headed to Malaysia today for a two-day visit, to make arrangements for reviving the dialogue process, the daily reported.
Thawil was quoted by the daily that he would talk with his Malaysian counterpart to pave the way for the next round of talks.
