Wisma Putra confirms no Malaysians hurt in Fukushima quake

The Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo has confirmed that no Malaysians were hurt in the earthquake which hit Fukushima prefecture, Japan today.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said the embassy is closely monitoring the situation following the 7.3-magnitude earthquake which struck off Fukushima Prefecture at 5.59am.
"The Embassy is also in close contact with the Japanese authorities for the latest updates on the situation and for any advisories.
"The Government of Malaysia expresses its sympathy to the Government and people of Japan, especially those in the affected areas," it said.

The 7.3 magnitude earthquake triggered a tsunami warning and residents in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures were instructed to leave the coastal areas for higher-levelareas/places.
However, the tsunami warning has since been lifted based on the current situation in the affected areas. -- BERNAMA
