1MDB: Don't act in haste or continue to punish Najib - Hishammuddin

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein Onn today urged all quarters to not act in haste and avoid making early assumptions with regards to foreign media speculation against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.

"People should not act in haste or continue to punish the Prime Minister as the allegations were based on unverified media reports. People should also avoid in making speculations as it would only worsen the situation.

Hishammuddin said he is aware of the extent of the allegations that had raised many eyebrows and attempts to test the strength of the country's institutions in addressing the issue promptly.

"Just as the rest of the people in the country, I too would like to know the truth. Space must be given to the authorities including the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Bank Negara Malaysia in their investigation," he added.

He also added that the Special Task Force is dutifully carrying out its tasks promptly, fairly and unbiased.

While the task force personnel is carrying out the investigations, Malaysians should stay united and continue in supporting the country.

At the same time, Hishammuddin also urged those responsible in making the allegations to come forward with concrete evidences. This was, he added was crucial to protect the integrity and credibility of the Prime Minister, the government in the eyes of the world.

The Prime Minister has already issued a statement regarding this matter. I fully support him and continue to be loyal to him in taking necessary action against those who had made these baseless allegations.

On Friday, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Sarawak Report published a report which claimed that a total of US$700 million (RM2.6bil.) was channeled to several private accounts owned by Najib.

The revelation has caused a furor of sorts among many quarters especially after it was revealed that billions of ringgit had been channeled to several private accounts owned by him (Najib).
