230 suggestions made in Auditor-General's Report Series 2

AMBRIN: The weaknesses reported mostly involved inefficiency and failure to comply with the government's financial regulations by the public servants involved.
A total of 230 suggestions were made in the Auditor-General's Report 2013 Series 2 to assist the federal and state governments and federal statutory bodies to make improvements and overcome the weaknesses reported.
Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang said out of this number, 55 suggestions were made to the federal government, 31 to the federal statutory bodies and 144 to the state governments.
"The weaknesses reported mostly involved inefficiency and failure to comply with the government's financial regulations by the public servants involved," he said in a statement, today.
The Auditor-General's Report 2013 Series 2 was tabled in Parliament today after receiving consent from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.
Ambrin said in the Series 2 report, 57 performance audits and 18 management audits on government companies were conducted at the federal and state government levels and federal statutory bodies.
"The auditing carried out covered the construction aspect, maintenance, law enforcement, procurement, asset management, socio-economy uplifting programmes, infrastructure and company management."
Ambrin said the Finance Ministry had issued the Feedback Report to the Auditor-General's Report 2013 Series 2 which gave comments and statements on the latest actions taken from the Public Service heads to the issues highlighted in the Auditor-General's Report.
Each year, the National Audit Department carries out a performance audit to gauge how efficient and effective have the planned government projects and activities been implemented and monitored, and how far have the original objectives of the programmes or activities and projects have been met.
It is also to see whether public funds have been spent prudently, that is, without wastage and extravagance and getting the best value for the money spent.
For the audit of government companies, the National Audit Department evaluates the financial statement analysis, management of company activities and corporate governance.
