The condition of three Maahad Tahfiz Al Hashimi religious school students who were injured when a van crashed into a house in Kuala Krai last Friday, has taken a turn for the better.

The crash which occurred in Kampung Telekong claimed the lives of seven other students.

School principal, Mohd Azam Tarmizi said Ahmad Syakir Azfar Abd Rahim, 16, was recuperating at the Kuala Krai Hospital while Muhammad Faiz Hafizuddin Mohamad Izahir, also 16, was at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), Kubang Kerian.

Muhammad Nur Haikal Fauzi, 14, is recovering at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.

Three other victims who were also in the van were discharged from the Machang and Kuala Krai hospitals, Mohd Azam said when contacted here today.

They were Mohamad Aidil Ismail, 14; Muhamad Syuwari Mana Sikana, 14, as well as their accompanying teachers, Muhammad Izzat Mohamad Nor, 24, and Muhammad Hamzi Muhammad Husham, 24.

Mohd Azam said the teachers had been given leave from duty to recover from the trauma of the incident.

In the crash about 9.40am, a van ferrying 12 tahfiz students to attend an Al Quran Interpretation Conference at Madinah Ramadan, Kota Bharu, skidded and crashed into the house at the 55km Jalan Krai-Kota Bharu in Kampung Telekong, Kuala Krai.

Seven students, including a Thai national, were killed. Five died at the scene and the rest at the Kuala Krai Hospital.
