30,000 have benefited from PDRM's Op Bantu - IGP

KULIM: A total of 30,000 recipients nationwide, to date, have benefited from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)'s 'Op Bantu', since it was launched in July.

Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, said the initiative, which aimed to channel food aid, had succeeded in easing the burden of those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We do not set any target for this 'Op Bantu', which will continue. Hence, we will get help from parties who are willing to help," he told reporters after presenting the aid in Padang Serai near here today.

Acryl Sani said the PDRM also acted as a facilitator to any party who wished to provide assistance, including in identifying recipients who were in trouble and needed help.

"We have a police station, a police base that is close to the community and police personnel should know anyone who needs help in the area. Once we identify (such cases), we can channel it to community leaders, district offices and elected representatives," he said.

For the record, the implementation of 'Op Bantu' is a strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, and all district police headquarters nationwide are used as aid distribution centres.
