36 preachers must apply permission to give talks in Pahang

The Pahang Mufti Department will publish a list of names of 36 preachers who have to apply for permission from the state religious authorities before they can deliver religious talks in the state.
Mufti Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Osman said the individuals involved only need to apply for permission once but they have to go through procedures such as interviews with the state religious authorities namely Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) and Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP).
He said the move was to avoid confusion and division among the people in the state due to the different practices and thoughts brought by these individuals.
"A panel is currently working on the final details on rules and regulations that must be adhered to, before the names are released within the next two weeks," he said at a press conference here today.
"Some of the names in the list are popular public figures... there are also individuals who are both popular and have positions in the community, but have been banned from delivering talks in several states.
"Their names will not be included in the list, but they will be informed personally," he said.
He added that the list would be distributed to all mosques in Pahang, while monitoring would be carried out with help from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals whose names not on the list were encouraged to apply for permission for the convenience of all parties.
