Approximately 7,000 policemen will be on duty to ensure security and public order during the Bersih 5 and Red Shirt rallies in the city tomorrow.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police were prepared to discharge their duties and would not hesitate to act against anyone who violates the law and refuses to adhere to instructions.

"Approximately 7,000 policemen will be deployed to ensure security and to prevent any untoward incidents tomorrow," he told reporters after the preview and launch of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Coffee Table book here today.

He said it is the police's responsibility to ensure security and public order, as well as to uphold the laws in the country.

"At the same time, I call on the public not to join any groups during the rallies tomorrow," he said. --Bernama
