Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been appointed as Selangor Menteri Besar for second term.
Abdul Khalid, who won Port Klang state seat during the recent general election, received the appointment approval from Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at Istana Alam Shah this morning.
The appointment put an end to the speculations that have cropped up for the past one week, since the May 5 general election, on who would be appointed to the post.
Abdul Khalid is also expected to announce the line-up of the state executive council members within two weeks.
During the ceremony, Khalid clad in black ‘Baju Melayu’ arrived at 9.40am while Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah arrived 10 minutes later at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah here.
At 10am, the ceremony begin with Khalid received an appointment letter from Sultan of Selangor before taking an oath in front of the Sultan and signed the oath witnessed by Shah Alam High Court Judge, Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah.
Meanwhile, the private secretary of Sultan of Selangor, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani in his press statement stated that the appointment of Khalid was made after three Pakatan Rakyat component parties, PKR, DAP and PAS had sent Khalid’s name to the palace.
“Khalid had fullfill the criteria that enabled him to be a Menteri Besar. He was also Selangor Memteri Besar on the previous term and his experience can help the state government administration,” he said.
He added that the late appointment of Selangor Menteri Besar was due to the His Royal Highness had to wait for the selection of name that suitable to be the Menteri Besar presented by the Pakatan’s component parties.
“PKR president, Datin Seri Wan Azizah stated before that Selangor Menteri Besar candidate doesn’t necessary had to be Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim but after Pakatan Rakyat won the majority vote in Selangor, His Royal Highness satisfied with only one name that had been nominated and it is Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim,” he said.
During the recent general election, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim from PKR won Port Klang state seat after defeated BN candidate, Nasaruddin M.Zin with the majority of 2,994 votes.
He was a Ijok state assemblyman on previous term.
