Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron has expressed confidence that police would get to the bottom of the case where a Thai woman has accused an immigration officer of raping her at the Machap Umboo Immigration Depot in Alor Gajah near here, two weeks ago.

He said the law must be allowed to take it is course and that no one should be denied their rights.

"A comprehensive probe must be undertaken and if there has been any wrongdoing, then the proper action must be taken," he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here today.

A local daily had carried a news report yesterday saying the woman was raped by an immigration officer while recording her statement at the depot.

Bernama today reported the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission had commenced it own probe into the case and was also leaving it to the police to carry out investigations.

In PUTRAJAYA, Immigration Department deputy director-general (Supervision) Datuk Ibrahim Abdullah in a statement said the department was also carrying out an internal probe regarding the claim.

He said the officer concerned had been called up for questioning and that the department was leaving it to the police to carry out the necessary investigations.

He added that the law must be allowed to take its course and that the department would not compromise whatsoever against any of its officers if they break the law.
