Police detained another suspect to facilitate the 10-vehicle pile up involving a Seri Manjung Road Transport Department (RTD) four-wheel drive (4WD) in Pekan Ayer Tawar last Friday.
Perak deputy police chief SAC Datuk A. Paramasivam said a 40-year-old suspect was detained at Taman Muhibbah, Sitiawan on Jan 12.
"This brings to four the number of suspects detained. The others are 17, 40 and 33, from Ayer Tawar, and Changkat Keruing, Pantai Remis," he told reporters here today.
"So far our investigations show that the lorry skidded due to speeding and hit the bus, causing the pile up," he said.
Fourteen people were hurt in the accident, after which the RTD's 4WD was overturned and torched by members of the public at Km12 Jalan Sitiawan-Ipoh, in front of the Methodist School, Ayer Tawar.
On a separate case, Paramasivam said police fired four shots at two suspects, 27 and 29, after they tried to slash them with machetes to evade arrest.
Based on a report, the suspects and another man still at large, were believed to have slashed two victims, aged 54 and 34 at an entertainment outlet prior to the shooting.
Both suspects were from Klang, Selangor and one had a previous criminal record, while the victims, who sustained head injuries were warded at the Seri Manjung Hospital, he said.
