It also wants Najib to ask the controversial MP to resign as a member of UMNO central committee and MP over his tweet which drew wide criticism.
DAP election strategy chief Dr Ong Kian Ming said politicians in many countries have resigned for making racist and bigoted statement.
“Since it is very unlikely that Bung will apologise or resign over his remarks, I call upon PM Najib to ask him to publicly apologise for this tweet and the defense of his tweet,” he said in a press statement, Thursday.
He said this has to be done to safeguard the country and UMNO’s reputation.
The Serdang MP said the tweet, “Well done…Bravo…Long live Hitler”, is highly offensive and unacceptable behaviour coming from a MP.
“His refusal to apologise and his ignorant defense of his tweet is even more unacceptable,” he added.
On Wednesday, German ambassador to Malaysia, Holger Michael had described Bung Mokhtar’s tweet as "unacceptable".
Bung Mokhtar Radin sparked a controversy when he associated the Germany team which trashed Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final match of the 2014 World Cup with Adolf Hitler.
He became an MP since 1999. This is not the first time he sparked a controversy. Previously he was criticised for his insensitive statement on women, race and other issues.
