An audit of the klia2 airport for low-cost carriers in Sepang will be conducted following the Cabinet's green light, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the Auditor-General would be requested to undertake the task.
"The Transport Ministry fully supported the move to audit klia2 in the cabinet, which has granted approval," he said in a statement on Friday.
Liow said he had from the onset backed the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) call for the Auditor-General to conduct further investigations into the management of the construction and development of klia2.
"I agree that the Malaysian public have the right to demand answers on this matter," he said.
He said given that MAHB was a listed entity, the Cabinet needed to approve the involvement of the Auditor-General to conduct the audit.
Liow noted said it was and had always been the responsibility of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), as the owner and manager of klia2, to engage with the PAC and respond in a transparent manner.
The klia2 development has been clouded by claims of cost overruns.
