Authorities to punish those who attempt to harm Malaysia's democratic process

Following various reports involving the funds of 1Malaysia Development Berhad, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Royal Malaysian Police will not hesitate to use the full force of the law against those who attempt to harm Malaysia’s economy and democratic process.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a statement that various media reports were found quoting unverified documents.
“Are they authentic? Do they even exist? Who are the unnamed investigators who supposedly traced movements of money?
“Allegations and insinuations are being made against a serving Malaysian Prime Minister. This is irresponsible and reckless journalism and bordering on criminal offenses,” said Zahid.
He said the main source for these allegations is from alleged date stolen by an individual who has now been detained and is under investigation for attempted blackmail and extortion.
“An independent international cyber security firm, Protection Group International (PGI), has confirmed the theft and said that the information published should be considered unsafe and unreliable,” he said.
As investigations are ongoing, Zahid urged all parties – domestically and internationally – to refrain and restrain themselves from making comments on this matter that would cause further confusion among the public.
