Blu Inc Media ceases operations, says goodbye to 20 titles

Following the economic turmoil resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, magazine publisher Blu Inc Media Sdn Bhd on Thursday has finally ceased its print and digital publications.

In a letter to its staff, chief executive officer Datin Azliza Tajuddin, said the business had already been under tremendous challenge from digital disruption over the past few years.

“While we have made increasing investment to build our digital capabilities, it is still unclear whether we have gained sufficient traction while the losses continue to increase,” said the letter.

Citing the current Movement Control Order (MCO), Azliza further mentioned that the companny suffered even more losses in March and April and the trend is expected to continue for the next few months.

“It is uncertain that we will be able to see any light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.

Azliza said six staff will assist her through the process while others will receive a separate e-mail regarding their employment status soon.

The publisher, formerly known as Jack Chia-MPH Group in 1974, has been in the publishing sphere for almost four decades.

Well known for producing magazines such as CLEO, Harper’s Bazaar, Jelita and Marie Claire, Blu Inc finally says goodbye to all its 20 titles in English, Malay and Chinese.
