Bumiputera agenda is a national agenda

He said, since the last general elections, the government has heard many complaints and dissatisfaction about the direction of the Malays and Bumiputera economy.

“ Because of the support given by the Malays and Bumiputeras (to Barisan Nasional) during the 13th General Elections , today the government has decided to make a shift to implement the strategies and approaches comprehensively ( to empower the Bumiputera economy),” he said

Najib stressed this in his speech in a gathering at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam- the institution that symbolizes the agenda of the Malays and Bumiputera.

He explained that the event was held “to safeguard the interests of the Malays and the Bumiputera from then, now and forever,”

Najib started his speech by expressing his gratitude to the people, especially to the Malays and Bumiputera, who once again gave their trust to BN to lead the government.

In the last GE-13, BN formed a government after securing 133 parliamentary seats.

UMNO as the main party for BN coalition gained 9 more seats in comparison to the previous election in 2008.

Najib attributed the Malay and Bumiputera vote as evidence that they want the government to remain “strong and powerful” to push the Malay and Bumiputera agenda.

Najib is who also the President of UMNO, said that we must all recognize that the Bumiputera agenda is a national agenda and there are no national agendas which can ignore the Bumiputera agenda.

“This is because if the majority Bumiputera is not supported and if they feel threatened or marginalized, the country will not achieve peace and stability, and it will be unlikely that we can achieve the dream of becoming a prosperous and developed nation by 2020,” he said

A population census last year projected that Malays and Bumiputeras make up 67.9% of the population.

He concluded his speech by giving assurance to the Malays and Bumiputeras not to be worried about the government's determination to defend their agenda.

“There is no need to be worried because as long as the moon and stars still exist, as long as life still exists, the survival of the Malays and Bumiputeras will be a priority and a shining beacon for our struggle till the end of time,” he said.

The questioning of the fate and future of the Malays socio-economy began after BN’s poor performance in 2008 general elections and again after it failed to improve their position during the recent GE-13.
