KUALA LUMPUR: Netizens are not amused by the photo featuring a group of children having gales of laughter and a feline buried up to its head in the sand.
Through Astro AWANI’s Twitter account (@501awani), we asked if this was just a cute joke or otherwise, and we received several responses.
Below are some tweets received by those who are not amused by the photo:
@501Awani xcomel langsung.. ni dera kucing tu.. nampak muka kucing tu stress.. kesian die

@501Awani nak 'bergurau' pun agak agaklah...ni dah kira 'seksa' kucing...kesian kucing tu...

@501Awani this is stupid... and for those who judged this should be the winning photo, you are no better... worse i'd say..

@501Awani kekejaman.
— Marr Mohamad (@MarrMohamad12) June 24, 2014
Astro AWANI’s Facebook page also received several negative comments. Some questioned how the photo managed to win the competition and the judges’ criteria.
“Cats do not like to be buried. It is not in their nature to be treated like that,” wrote Jaffersion Lanchester Awen.
Normala Hashim meanwhile said, “It’s as if we are encouraging cruelty against animals.”
However, some netizens said it was just a playful act:
@501Awani biasa la main dengan kucing masa kecik2 kan. adoi

"There is nothing wrong with that. It's just a competition. We often see people buried in sand. It's unique to bury the cat. Just remove it afterwards. That's not cruel," wrote Nazrul Harizal on Facebook.
Is this a cute and playful act? What do you think of the photo? Share your views on Astro AWANI's Twitter or Facebook page.
