Butcher shot at Kajang market
Abd Ghani Abdullah, 50, sustained a gunshot wound below the left ear and left shoulder while walking towards his stall at a lane behind the market about 6.30am, after parking his car near Metro Point.
A butcher, popularly known by his monicker 'doctor' by both his employees and patrons, narrowly missed a date with destiny when he was shot by a gunman near the Kajang Market here early today.
Abd Ghani Abdullah, 50, sustained a gunshot wound below the left ear and left shoulder while walking towards his stall at a lane behind the market about 6.30am, after parking his car near Metro Point.
When the victim collapsed, the gunman, astride a motorcycle about 10 metres away, sped away.
The police have classified the case as attempted murder.
Kajang police chief, ACP Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said onlookers sent Abd Ghani to the Kajang Hospital where his condition was described as stable.
"We are in the midst of establishing the motive behind the attack," he told Bernama when contacted here.
Meanwhile, one of Abd Ghani's workers, who wished to be known only as Sevarasa, said he was only aware of the shooting when he heard what sounded like "two explosions".
"I saw people running to the rear of the market and I also rushed there, only to see my employer covered in blood," he said.
He said it was the daily routine of his employer to come to his stall at 6am daily, after the workers opened the stall.
Sevaras has worked for Abd Ghani for 10 years.
